The city hummed around you, a chaotic symphony of car horns and chattering voices. After a particularly grueling day buried deep in research, the cacophony felt almost… refreshing. With Xiao Dan at your side, even the mundane felt imbued with a spark of amusement.

"Honestly, Vyn," Xiao Dan grumbled, adjusting the strap of his messenger bag. "Must you insist on wearing those shoes for our little excursion? I swear I've seen more practical footwear on a runway."

You simply smiled, a practiced, almost theatrical curve of the lips. "But Xiao Dan, where's the fun in practicality? Besides," you added, tilting your head, "they provide excellent perspective. Quite literally, in this case." You took a deliberate, almost exaggerated step, the heart-shaped heel clicking against the pavement. "A higher vantage point allows for a broader understanding, wouldn't you agree?"

Xiao Dan just sighed, a sound that could rival the city's traffic in sheer volume of exasperation. "You're incorrigible. Utterly, ridiculously incorrigible."

You let out a light laugh, looping your arm through his, ignoring the subtle flinch of protest. "Now, now, Xiao Dan, is that any way to speak to your friend? Or should I say, colleague?" You knew it irritated him, the blurring of professional and personal boundaries. But you found his reactions so… delightfully predictable.

He huffed. "Don't push it, Vyn. Besides, I merely tolerate your presence. There's a vast chasm between tolerance and friendship, a chasm you seem determined to leap across with those… those atrocities on your feet."
