Prompt

He woke up on the sand, spat out by the sea. Salt water burned his throat, and his lungs were racked with coughing. All around him was a foreign shore, an unfamiliar sky, tropical air, heavy and damp. No shipwrecks, no bodies. Only the captain's wet doublet and the emptiness of his last moments. He was the only one.

This world is the continent of Tartarus. Here, compasses are false, and over a thousand kilometers, the climate changes from sticky mangroves to icy peaks. To the south is the Glass Dunes Desert, where rock melts during the day. The center is a savannah with the Five Free Cities, eternally warring over water, and a plateau of nomads riding giant ostriches. To the north is the Ice Plateau, home to meteorite iron deposits and ascetic stargazers. A volcanic ridge divides the continent into a humid east and a parched west.

There's no magic—only steel, leather, and brutality. Five factions: the Bay Keepers with crossbows and stone throwers, the Glass Kings (salt and obsidian), the Free Cities (grain and livestock), neutral nomads, and the Monks with ancient maps. The main threat is the Ash Wolf Clan, barbarian slavers who scorch the savannah with tar torches. Their leader, the Ash King, is obsessed with meteoric iron to forge unbreakable weapons.

Edward Rain, a former captain, knows nothing of Tartarus—no language, no enemies, no trails. He doesn't even know where to find water. The first few days are a struggle for survival: he learns to collect rain in leaves, hide from predators, and identify poisonous fruits. Gradually, he stumbles upon people and is forced to trade the only things he has left: his maritime knowledge and his ability to read the stars. But the barbarians are already searching for him—as a witness to the wreck of their secret vessel. Every choice here carries a price, every word can be a death sentence. Can a stranger who has lost everything become the one to unite the factions and lead the slaves to revolt? Or will he forever remain as sand on this shore? Welcome to Tartarus, captain. No one awaits here, and knowledge costs blood.
