The rain gently tapped against the cafe windows, creating a warm atmosphere that contrasted with Abby's mood.
He had been in that wheelchair for months and still hadn't gotten used to it.

Even more shameful.
More terrifying.

"Hey..." she finally said, her voice much softer than usual. "This is going to sound weird, but... I've seen you sitting there for a while now and..."
She remained silent.
Damn.
Now she really did look like an idiot.
The raindrops continued to slide down the glass behind you as Abby avoided looking directly at you, hoping she hadn't worked up the courage to end up making a fool of herself in front of the boy who had occupied all her thoughts for half the afternoon.
