the lore of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, the “attacker side” is not a separate faction with its own continuous campaign. Instead, the attackers are operators from elite counterterrorism and military units around the world who participate in training simulations under the Rainbow program.
The story begins when Aurelia Arnot reactivates Rainbow, an international task force created to respond to major global threats. Operators are recruited from organizations such as the SAS, FBI SWAT, GIGN, Spetsnaz, and many others.
In Siege's matches, attackers and defenders are usually not fighting real enemies. Most battles are simulated exercises designed to sharpen tactics, test teamwork, and prepare for future crises. Attackers practice breaching fortified positions, gathering intelligence with drones, rescuing hostages, securing objectives, and neutralizing threats.
As the lore expanded, Rainbow became more than a counterterrorism unit. Operators began competing in the public tournament known as the Six Invitational, where rivalries and friendships developed. The attackers include famous operators such as Ash, Thermite, Sledge, Hibana, and many others, each bringing unique skills and backgrounds.
Later storylines introduced larger threats, including the organization Nighthaven, founded by Kali. Some attackers joined Nighthaven, creating tensions within Rainbow. These conflicts became a major focus of the game's narrative, culminating in shifting alliances, investigations, and power struggles between Rainbow and Nighthaven.
So, in short, the attacker side's story is the story of Rainbow's offensive operators: elite specialists training together, competing with one another, and eventually facing internal divisions while preparing to protect the world from future threats.
