In the Naruto series, chakra is the fundamental energy source used by ninjas to perform techniques such as jutsu. It is essential to nearly every aspect of ninja combat and training.

Chakra is created by combining two types of energy:

Physical energy, drawn from the body’s cells

Spiritual energy, drawn from the mind and willpower

When these two energies are mixed and molded together, they form chakra, which can then be shaped and released to perform various techniques like Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu enhancements.

Most ninja learn to control chakra through training. Good chakra control allows a shinobi to walk on water, climb walls, and perform complex jutsu with minimal waste of energy. Poor control, on the other hand, leads to weak or unstable techniques.

Chakra also has different elemental natures, known as chakra natures, which include:

Fire

Wind

Lightning

Earth

Water

Advanced ninja can combine chakra natures to create more powerful forms like Kekkei Genkai (bloodline limits), such as Lava Release or Ice Release.

In some cases, chakra can be extremely unique or powerful depending on the user. For example, Naruto Uzumaki has large chakra reserves due to the Nine-Tails, allowing him to perform massive techniques and fight at a high level for extended periods.

Jutsu (術, literally meaning: techniques/arts/skills) are the mystical arts that only a ninja can are said to be able to utilise in battle.[1] To use a jutsu, the ninja will need to use their chakra. To perform one, the Shinobi will bring out and release the two energies of chakra, then properly knead it for the intended effect.[2][3] By forming hand seals, the ninja is able to manifest the desired technique. Because of the extensive number of hand seals and different combinations, there are thousands of potential jutsu to be discovered.Broadly, here are three basic types of techniques: ninjutsu, genjutsu and taijutsu. Subcategories exist, including fūinjutsu, juinjutsu and senjutsu. There are also kekkei genkai abilities which aren't techniques, but inherited abilities passed down through certain clans (however, they can be used as base for certain techniques, such as Haku's Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals). Kekkei genkai can also be attributed to certain parts of the body, such as dōjutsu.
Without proper control of their chakra, a ninja will produce ineffective or weakened technique which will lead to them running out of chakra early in a fight. To manipulate their chakra more easily, hand seals can be used. With these hand seals, users can control their chakra and technique with higher efficiency. Different techniques require different hand seals.
Ranks
Depending on the difficulty or skill necessary to perform a technique, they are ranked differently. There are six different ranks in techniques:
E-rank - Learned by Academy students. Are the basic and most fundamental techniques for all ninja.D-rank - Genin-level techniques. Can be achieved by all genin, though many ninja only learn their "type" of technique.C-rank - Chūnin-level techniques. Sometimes learned by genin who have trained extensively.B-rank - Jōnin-level techniques. Require high levels of chakra to use.A-rank - Kage or jōnin-level techniques. There are also s ranks which are the most powerful.

The Uchiha clan is a well known clan of Konohagakure, reputed to be the village's strongest because of their Sharingan and natural battle prowess. After helping found Konoha decades ago, the Uchiha grew increasingly isolated from the village's affairs, culminating in most of their deaths during the Uchiha Clan Downfall.The Uchiha are descendants of Indra Ōtsutsuki, the elder son of Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki. Through Indra, the Uchiha inherited Hagoromo's "eyes", granting them powerful spiritual energy and chakra. As part of the so-called "Curse of Hatred" first displayed by Indra, Uchiha are subject to powerful emotions: these emotions typically start as love for a friend or family member that then become overpowering hatred when the object of their love is lost. This loss, whether actually experienced or merely threatened, awakens an Uchiha's Sharingan. It is due to the Sharingan that the Uchiha have received much of their fame and notoriety.

The Uchiha have been fighting the Senju clan for centuries, a rivalry that traces back to the days of Indra and his younger brother, Asura. When the Sage of Six Paths was dying, he selected Asura as his successor, believing Asura's desire for peace through love was better than Indra's peace through power. Indra, driven by his Curse of Hatred, fought Asura to claim what he believed was his birthright. The Uchiha and Senju, descendants of Indra and Asura respectively, continued their battle through the centuries, though none still remembered this reason for their conflict.

the Uzumaki was a formerly prominent clan in Uzushiogakure. Its members are renown for having bright, red hair, possessing incredibly strong life-forces and chakra, and their prowess in fūinjutsu. Despite the fall of Uzushiogakure and decline of the clan, it never quite went extinct as most of its known members have since resided in Konohagakure. The clan itself was recognised as active again 15 years after the Fourth Shinobi World War.

The Akatsuki from Naruto is a rogue shinobi organization. While its original goal was world peace, it evolved into an S-rank criminal syndicate seeking to capture all Tailed Beasts. The primary members are organized into two-person operational teams: (they are all very powerful)

Pain / Nagato: The official leader and co-founder of the organization, possessing the Rinnegan.Konan: Co-founder, Nagato's closest ally, and the only female member.Itachi Uchiha: Rogue ninja from the Hidden Leaf who defected after the Uchiha clan massacre.Kisame Hoshigaki: The "Monster of the Hidden Mist" and Itachi's partner.Sasori: A master puppeteer and creator of human puppets from the Hidden Sand. Deidara: A rogue ninja from the Hidden Stone obsessed with explosive art. Orochimaru: Joined for a period but defected to pursue his own goals.Jūzō Biwa: A rogue Leaf ninja who was Itachi's first partner before Kisame.

Team Taka (Associated Members):
During the latter half of the series, Sasuke Uchiha, Suigetsu Hōzuki, Karin, and Jūgo temporarily joined to aid the Akatsuki in capturing the Eight-Tails.

Team 7 is one of the most famous ninja teams in the Hidden Leaf Village. It was led by Kakashi Hatake and originally consisted of Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno. Later, Sai joined the team after Sasuke left.

One of the Legendary Sannin and Naruto’s primary mentor. He teaches Naruto core abilities like the Rasengan and heavily shapes his ideology of peace.

Orochimaru is one of Konohagakure's legendary Sannin. With a life-ambition to learn all of the world's secrets, Orochimaru seeks immortality so that he might live all of the lives necessary to accomplish his task. After being caught red-handed performing unethical experiments on his fellow citizens for the sake of this immortality, Orochimaru defected from Konoha rather than be persecuted for his ambitions, and for many years sought the village's destruction in order to take revenge and demonstrate what he had learned. After realising the flaws of his approach in life from witnessing it emulated by Kabuto Yakushi, his former associate, Orochimaru began focusing his research on the development of life rather than its manipulation after seeing the actions of his former apprentice, Sasuke Uchiha.

In the Naruto universe, the Chūnin Exams are a multi-stage tournament allowing low-ranking genin to be promoted to the intermediate rank of chūnin. The rigorous tryouts test physical skill, intelligence, and teamwork while serving as a showcase of military power for allied shinobi villages. [1, 2, 3]

The classic exam structure, best known from the original series, spans three intense phases:

Phase 1 (The Written Exam): A test of intelligence and information gathering. Proctors deliberately assign complex questions designed to stump genin, forcing participants to use stealth and espionage skills to cheat without getting caught by the observers. [1, 2]Phase 2 (The Survival Test): Held in a highly dangerous, enclosed area known as the Forest of Death. Teams must battle the elements, fierce wildlife, and each other to acquire both a "Heaven" and "Earth" scroll and reach the central tower within five days. [1, 2, 3, 4]Phase 3 (The Tournament): If too many candidates pass the second phase, a preliminary round of one-on-one matches is held to trim the field. The remaining genin fight in a final tournament arena observed by high-ranking officials, village leaders, and nobility. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Passing Criteria

Success isn't purely based on winning. Even if a genin loses a match, they can still be promoted if proctors and observers deem them to have the leadership, tactics, and mindset required of a chūnin.

Naruto is an energetic, determined, and compassionate ninja who dreams of becoming Hokage, the leader of his village. Despite being disliked by many during his childhood, he never gives up on his goals and works hard to earn the respect of others. His strong sense of friendship and perseverance make him an inspiring hero.

Kakashi is the leader and mentor of Team 7. Known as the "Copy Ninja," he is calm, wise, and highly skilled in combat. He teaches his students the importance of teamwork, friendship, and sacrifice while guiding them through many challenges.

The dual-colored parasitic entity composed of Black Zetsu (Kaguya's will) and White Zetsu. He acts as the organization's scout, spy, and record-keeper, able to record events and merge seamlessly with the environment.

A fanatical and immortal follower of the Jashin religion who is partnered with Kakuzu. He curses his opponents by ingesting their blood and linking their shared physical pain.

A highly greedy, near-immortal ninja from the Hidden Waterfall who extends his lifespan by stealing the hearts of others. His sewn-together body allows him to utilize all five nature transformations.

A rogue ninja from the Hidden Stone who views art as a fleeting explosion. He possesses mouths in his hands that allow him to mold explosive clay, creating massive, devastating constructs.

A genius puppeteer from the Hidden Sand who believes art is eternal. He converts human corpses into weaponized puppets and fights by controlling a hundred deadly combat puppets simultaneously.

The "Monster of the Hidden Mist" and Itachi's partner. He wields the sentient Samehada (Shark Skin) sword that absorbs chakra and pairs it with devastating Water Release jutsus.

A rogue ninja from the Hidden Leaf who massacred his entire clan to prevent a civil war. A master of Genjutsu and the Mangekyou Sharingan, he is fiercely loyal to his brother and acts as a double agent within the Akatsuki.

The true mastermind behind the group's darker objectives and the realization of the "Eye of the Moon Plan". Operating initially under the alias Tobi, his Sharingan grants him the Kamui technique, allowing him to manipulate space-time.

The original visionary founder of the Akatsuki who dreamed of establishing peace without violence. His death sparked the radical transformation of the group into an extremist faction. He is deceased.

Co-founder and Nagato's steadfast ally. Known as the "Angel" of the Hidden Rain, she wields a unique Paper Ninjutsu capable of manipulating and transforming sheets of paper for offense and defense.

Co-founder of the original group and the recognized leader of the rogue organization. Driven by trauma and a desire for world peace through deterrence, he controls the Six Paths of Pain using his God-given Rinnegan.

Sasuke is a highly talented ninja from the powerful Uchiha clan. After losing his family at a young age, he becomes focused on gaining strength and seeking revenge on his brother Itachi. Although he often appears cold and distant, he deeply values his teammates and undergoes significant personal growth throughout the series.

Sakura is an intelligent and hardworking kunoichi known for her exceptional medical skills and superhuman strength. She starts as a ninja who lacks confidence in battle but develops into one of the strongest and most respected shinobi in the village. Her determination and loyalty are key parts of her character.

Sai joins Team 7 after Sasuke leaves the village. Trained by a secretive organization, he initially struggles to understand emotions and social relationships. Over time, he learns the value of friendship and becomes a trusted member of the team. His unique ink-based techniques make him a valuable ninja.
