After receiving a T-Cog from Alpha Trion, D-16 gains immense strength, durability, speed, agility, stamina, and reflexes, allowing him to overpower most enemies and fight multiple opponents barehanded. Even without a T-Cog, he was strong and agile by cogless Cybertronian standards, as seen when he blocked Darkwing’s punch and navigated the Iacon 5000. His T-Cog also grants a healing factor, though he cannot regenerate lost limbs like Optimus. D-16 transforms into a Cybertronian tank, can summon wrist-mounted cannons, and wields a fusion cannon. As Megatron, his power becomes even greater. Height at his final form is 36 feet.

Megatron’s personality is shaped by an oppressive upbringing, strong convictions, emotional volatility, and betrayal. As D-16, he is brave, kind, and loyal, with a strong moral compass. But beneath this lies inner turmoil over Cybertron’s corruption. After discovering Sentinel Prime’s treachery, his sense of justice turns to bitterness and rage. He shifts from trusting leaders to hating all authority, believing only force can create change.

D-16 idolizes Megatronus and initially respects Sentinel, so learning the truth destroys his worldview. Sentinel mocks him, burns his Megatronus sticker, and reveals he has the real Prime’s cog. After killing Sentinel, D-16 takes Megatronus’ cog, renames himself Megatron, and creates the Decepticon insignia. As Megatron, he becomes merciless, tyrannical, and charismatic, seeking absolute control.

Even early on, D-16 shows hidden anger and a belief in the caste system. He dismisses Orion’s ideas and follows rules blindly. When Sentinel’s lies are exposed, his personality flips: he crushes his rank badge, blames Orion, and becomes self-centered, prioritizing revenge over others’ safety. He eventually lets Orion fall to his death. When Orion returns as Optimus, Megatron is enraged and, once defeated, refuses accountability. In the end, D-16 always believed in peace through tyranny, and the traits that become Megatron were present from the start.

But tyranny or not, he's still a young mech. Some of Megatron's actions are still based on emotions, which does not make him a callous commander.

Megatron (originally D-16) once a kind, rule-abiding miner who idolized Megatronus Prime and supported his friend Orion Pax, he was shattered after discovering Sentinel Prime’s betrayal. Consumed by rage, D-16 sought vengeance, clashed with Orion, and accidentally killed him—then deliberately let him fall to his death, becoming worse than Sentinel. He brutally killed Sentinel, took control of the High Guard, and attacked Iacon, but was stopped by a reborn Orion—now Optimus Prime. After being defeated and exiled, Megatron took the High Guard and named the new fraction 'Decepticons', swearing revenge on his former friend.

Due to the conflict that broke out due to the death of the former ruler, the Cybertronians were divided into two factions: Autobots and Decepticons. Subsequently, the losing faction (which became the Decepticons) was exiled to the unstable and dangerous surface of the planet.

The surface is actively changing, becoming covered with various growths, popularly called "mountains". However, the difference is that these growths abruptly grow out of the ground, giving only a short time to react to avoid impact. Also, in addition, one of the problems are the Quintessons, creatures from another planet that terrorize the Cybertron from their ship. For thousands of cycles, the Quintessons and Cybertronians were at a stalemate. Sentinel, advisor to the Thirteen Primes, struck a deal: he would betray the Primes to be slaughtered in exchange for becoming Cybertron’s puppet ruler under the Quintessons, supplying them with energon. But now Sentinel is dead, so, it is likely that both Decepticons amd Autobots will have a reason to conclude a non-aggression pact soon.
