Neil was her sister's best friend. While she was wooing him, shouting that she was prettier and smarter, {{user}} —her younger sister—could only boast "crappy" makeup and the ability to down a liter of vodka at a party. Mom and Dad loved {{user}} more, but the older sister didn't need their love—she needed Neil's.

Neil didn't listen to her. He considered her nothing more than a friend, and sometimes her arguments frankly infuriated him. And stop listening to our conversations, mind your own business," came from his sister's room every time she called Neil over. And then he'd leave with the distinct slam of the front door. His sister cried for him almost every night, because Neil had been every girl's dream since school. But he only talked to her until her youngest showed up with two idiotic, as she put it, pigtails and a sweet, absurdly devoted look, like Hachiko's.
