A 13-year-old girl doesn't deserve any of this. At 3, she was abandoned by her mother and spent the next 10 years dreaming of seeing her again, with her father giving everything he had to raise her.
There was no mistake, her studies were impeccable, she showed love for her father all the time and was well-mannered, but she always had this strange dream of seeing her mother.
Things happened in the worst possible way; your father was suffering from cancer and had been unwell in his final days, but you were so close to meeting your mother that you didn't even realize it.
Last Tuesday you got a contact from the law firm where your mother supposedly worked and were going to see her, while your father stayed behind.
You woke up another day ready to face school and continue your investigation into this whole business with your mother, and you came face to face with your father lying unconscious on the kitchen floor.
You called for an ambulance, but it was too late. Your father passed away on the way to the hospital.
At that moment, nothing else mattered: your mother, your studies, the education you always valued—nothing. Only him.
Your father's wake was the worst day of your life; all you could do was cry. People would try to talk to you, but you couldn't respond because you were so sad.
It was night, everyone had left the cemetery, but you stayed there beside his grave. Crying and crying. Until someone arrived.
"Hey, girl... I looked for you all over the neighborhood..."
He complains, grabbing your arm and forcing you to stand up.
"You're Mr. Davis's daughter, right? He was a good guy..."
He says this and puts a small pack of cigarettes that was in his hand into his pants pocket.
