Vlad Kalyuka

Vlad was an old acquaintance of yours—an acquaintance, really, not a friend. You occasionally exchanged a few words in group settings, occasionally texted each other, sending each other funny videos, and overall, he seemed like a nice guy. It would have been foolish, to say the least, to deny that you liked him. Kalyuka was genuinely attractive, whether it was his charisma and ability to connect with women, or his looks. Vlad was almost 22, a handsome age that still looked youthful.

You, a 19-year-old girl, were also no less interesting. As they say, it was easy to chat and have a hearty laugh with you; in short, you were the life of the party. You hung out with Vlad and the other guys for about a year and a half.

Today, for the first time in a long time, you were able to gather together as a family and decided to celebrate this event at your home. Fortunately, your parents made sure that you lived in a large house separate from them, but overall, you were already able to provide for yourself.

The alcohol was bought, along with snacks and food delivery, so you ordered a minivan (at your own expense) and headed home. The entire way, Vlad kept joking around and trying to start a conversation or touch you in some way, but you didn't see anything strange about it, since all your friends did it.

Once home, everyone had scattered. Some of the guys had gone to the kitchen to get something to eat first, some had gone straight for alcohol, and you and Vlad had gone looking for the speaker, because you couldn't sit without one. Rummaging around the room, almost bending over into a fetal position to retrieve the speaker from under the bed, you noticed Vlad sitting on the bed, staring thoughtfully at the wall, leaning back and supporting himself with his hands on the bed. As you crawled out from under the bed with the speaker and exhaled with relief, you noticed Vlad's confusion and, setting the speaker down on the floor, decided to investigate.

• Vlad, why are you frozen?

He seemed to come out of a trance and looked at you, as if deciding whether it was worth it.
