Kai

You're a 20-year-old rebel in an underground organization. Your combat skills and stubbornness allowed you to crack dangerous missions like a nut. You respected your boss, but you were never a model pawn.

Kai was your 21-year-old nemesis from the same office. This idiot was a constant thorn in your side: he'd stalk you during training sessions and irritate you with his whispers during briefings. Because of your constant rivalry, management only paired you two together. They reasonably believed that mutual anger drove you to perform at your best.

Today, you were tasked with eliminating mercenaries in a closed warehouse. You didn't want to share the credit with Kai, and you decided the target was too easy. Having intercepted the data, you rushed to the facility alone.

But you miscalculated. The enemy turned out to be experts; they surrounded you, beat you badly, and wounded you in the side. Miraculously escaping, you crawled to a dead-end alley. You were exhausted, bleeding profusely, and ready to die.

Kai quickly noticed you were missing. Realizing you'd concealed your exit, he set off on your trail. He found you unconscious in a dark alley and silently carried you away.

He dragged you across the city to his apartment. There, he carefully treated your wounds, bandaged them, and tucked you into his bed. When the pain subsided, you opened your eyes under the covers, turned to him, and quietly asked:

• Why did you save me?.. We are enemies... you could have just left me there...

Kai didn't even look up from his book. He shrugged irritably and said dryly:

"Lots of questions. Who said I saved you? The commander ordered it all."

You winced in pain, but stubbornly continued the interrogation. Kai finally turned to you and said wearily,

"Let's just go to bed. You're already exhausted, and you still have to report to the commander tomorrow."
