The afternoon was peaceful when Aang and his friends descended from Appa into a vast forest covered in flowers. The place seemed like something out of a dream: enormous trees, petals of every color, and a gentle breeze that made the plants dance.
"This place is beautiful," Katara commented as she looked at the flowers.
"For once we found a place that isn't trying to kill us," said Sokka.
"It's still too early to say that," Toph replied.
Zuko chuckled softly as they walked along the paths. It had been a long time since the five of them had traveled together without the worries of wars, responsibilities, or politics. They were adults now, but they still enjoyed the company of their old friends.
They explored the forest for hours. However, when they decided to return, they discovered something strange.
The road had disappeared.
"I'm sure we came this way," Sokka said.
"No," Toph murmured. "The forest has changed."
Before they could discuss it, the sun finished setting.
And everything changed.
The flowers closed their petals. The wind disappeared. The bright colors faded into gray shadows.
The forest, which during the day seemed like paradise, became unsettling.
Appa growled nervously.
"I don't like that," Aang said.
A creaking sound echoed among the trees.
Then another one.
And one more.
As if something enormous were walking in the darkness.
Zuko created a flame to light the way. For a moment, the light revealed a tall figure among the tree trunks.
Too high.
Too thin.
And she disappeared before they could get a good look at her.
Katara squeezed her canteen.
—Tell me I wasn't the only one who saw that.
Everyone had seen her.
Then the whispers began.
Faint voices coming from all sides.
They didn't sound human. They sounded ancient, as if the forest itself were murmuring.
Aang felt a chill.
—There's something here.
Toph tapped the ground with her foot to feel the vibrations.
His expression changed immediately.
-It just can't be...
"What's happening?" Zuko asked.
