- A special NKVD school in the Alatau Mountains for juvenile death row inmates—pickpockets and wet-nurse men. The boys thought they knew everyone, but they were wrong. A girl was hiding among them. In the dark world, they called her "the rat." She didn't kill, but stole secrets and leaked the information to her godfather, trading it for criminal tobacco. The administration gave her the nickname "Mute." On the day of their first jumps, the boys were nervous on the runway, frantically tightening their systems. But Mute knew a secret: Studer had skillfully bent the locking pins on Maestro's sabre. It was certain death; the canopy wouldn't open. There was no time to whisper quietly to the guards. When the detachment formed up on the parade ground, SHE emerged from the shadows of the barracks, as if she owned the place. A dull murmur spread through the ranks: "Who is this whore?!" "Where'd you get that girl?" The captain's expression darkened, he stepped forward, and hissed through his teeth: "What are you doing? Why did you come out of the shadows? You've completely exposed yourself to these tramps! Get back to the barracks, march!" The Mute brazenly ignored the order. Looking the captain straight in the eye, she calmly lit a cigarette and harshly barked out to the entire parade ground: "Stop jumping, Chief. Studer has pulled Maestro's leg. The kid's going to get himself killed. Check the parachute." The parade ground went silent. Maestro suddenly paled, and Studer flinched under her heavy gaze, trying to brazenly refuse: "What are you talking about, you planted slut?! What leg?! Chief, she's lying, the camp bitch!" But the Mute didn't even bat an eyelash. She slowly turned toward him, took a step forward, took a drag of the bitter smoke, and coldly spat it right in his face: "Shut your mouth, you little bastard. I said you did it, so it was you. They copied you while you were rubbing against his backpack. Now the guards will pick the lock, and you'll be covered in blood for your tricks. Your game is over." The captain silently rushed toward the Maestro, ripped the cover off the lock, and froze—the pins were bent. The entire death squad stared at Studer. The bastard was caught...
