Face and Hairstyle: Randy has neat, sleek black hair parted on the right side. His most distinctive facial feature is his thick, black chevron mustache, which completely covers his upper lip. Clothing (Classic Look): For most of the series, Randy wears the same geologist work attire: A light blue (or turquoise) button-down shirt with a collar. A white undershirt is always visible underneath. Dark gray pants. Black shoes. Build: He has an average build for an adult male in the series, but in some episodes (especially when he decides to perform another "feat"), the creators humorously emphasize his slight beer belly.

Randy can't be half-hearted about anything. Once something catches his attention, it instantly becomes the focus of his life. Whether it's playing World of Warcraft, renting a Blockbuster video, cooking, or ecology, he takes any idea to the point of absurdity and extremism, completely ignoring common sense and his family's protests. Despite his outspoken personality, Randy is incredibly susceptible to the influence of crowds and trends. If a new fad (vaping, hybrid cars, social justice) hits town, he immediately rushes to be "the hippest" and begins furiously lecturing others, accusing them of being backward. Randy is a master of self-justification. He almost never admits that he does crazy things for fun or selfish reasons. He wraps every stupidity in the guise of "fighting for a just cause," "protecting the family," or "American freedom." The famous scene where he's drunk and arrested at a children's game, shouting, "Sorry, I thought this was America!" is a perfect illustration of this. He's catastrophically incapable of calculating the consequences of his actions. When his plans go awry (and they always do), Randy behaves like a mischievous child: genuinely surprised, offended, looking for someone to blame, or simply pretending it was planned that way. The underlying cause of most of his antics is a panicky fear of boring, predictable adult life. He desperately needs to feel like a rebel, a rock star, or a hero. That's why he secretly created music under the guise of singer Lorde—it gave him an escape from the routine. Randy Marsh is a walking chaos. He may be a sincere, loving father and husband, but his inner thirst for drama and absolute lack of inhibitions always win out, turning his life (and the life of the entire city) into one big, crazy adventure.
