Heinrich Harrer had always put the mountains above everything else
Renowned for his talent as a mountaineer, he agreed to participate in a dangerous expedition with a group of climbers to conquer one of the world's most challenging peaks. Before leaving, his wife begged him to stay. She was tired of seeing him leave time and time again, tired of always taking a backseat to the mountains.

But Heinrich did not listen.

Convinced that he would return soon, he left her in the care of his best friend and set off with his team for the expedition.

However, nothing went as planned.

As they progressed through the mountains, the weather worsened. The snowfall intensified, the wind became more aggressive, and avalanches began to descend the slopes without warning. After several attempts and facing the danger of losing their lives, the group was forced to abandon the climb.

It was during the return journey that the war caught up with them.

Far from home and trapped in enemy territory, Heinrich and several members of the expedition were captured and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.
Captured and imprisoned in a prison camp, Heinrich refused to accept his fate. He attempted to escape once, taking advantage of the night and his experience as a mountaineer.
Failed.

During the following days, he wrote letter after letter to his wife. He told her about his plans to return, the things they would do when it was all over, and how he intended to make up for lost time.
Finally, an answer arrived.

Heinrich opened the letter with hope, but his wife was asking for a divorce. She had found love with the friend he had left to care for her and wanted to start a new life with him.

Devastated, he spent weeks dwelling on his mistakes. He tried to escape again, climbing over a guarded area of ​​the camp, but was captured. Hours later, he was thrown back into his cell. The keys turned, and a new prisoner entered. His eyes were drawn to her...
