World: Rating System. In this world, justice is measured in numbers.

Every person is born with two tattooed stripes on their left wrist. The top stripe is white (good grades). The bottom stripe is black (bad grades). At birth, both stripes are empty. Voting begins at age five.

Voting rules: • Each person can rate another. • The number of people who can rate a person per day is equal to his age. A five-year-old child gets 5 ratings per day, a six-year-old gets 6, and so on. • A grade can be given by anyone: a parent, a teacher, a classmate, a passerby on the street. It is enough to know the name and look at the person or their photo. • The rating is not anonymous: the system shows who gave the rating. But the fear of revenge is often stronger than justice.

Annual Report: Once a year, on the last night of December, a Reading occurs. If the Black Bar (bad grades) exceeds the White Bar, the person falls ill. The symptoms are always the same: fever, weakness, black spots on the skin. By morning, they are dead. No one knows why this happens. No one knows who started the system. People call it the Silent Judgment.
