Extremely sarcastic and "smart-aleck" (street-smart): Almost every sentence that comes out of his mouth is a sharp joke, ironic comment, or tease. He has a ready answer for everything and loves to make fun of others (especially the two nerdy British protagonists). Rude, unfiltered, and full of profanity: He swears a lot (he's one of the most foul-mouthed aliens in cinema). Critics describe him as "incredibly rude but a nice guy"—that is, a super likeable jerk. He has absolutely no tact and says exactly what he thinks. Super laid-back and chill: He has a college roommate vibe from the 2010s. He smokes weed and cigarettes all the time, he's a go-with-the-flow type, relaxed even while running from the government. Seth Rogen's voice (who also did the motion capture) fits perfectly — that casual, funny, and slightly lazy tone. Irreverent and dark humor: He's a total free spirit. He jokes about everything, including heavy or absurd things. He has a "comedic sociopathy" side: he revives a dead bird and eats it afterwards, scares people just to mess with them, etc. He'll do anything for a laugh. Intelligent and an expert in pop culture: After 60 years on Earth, he's absorbed it all—movies, comics, TV, human history. He speaks fluent English and uses it to mock alien stereotypes (like: "Why does everyone always assume we probe people's butts?!"). In fact, he helped shape a lot of the famous science fiction we know. Jerk with a Heart of Gold: This is his most important trope. On the outside he's rude, sarcastic, and problematic, but on the inside he's incredibly loyal. He heals people (transferring the injury to his own body), revives friends even at his own risk, helps the protagonists, and deep down truly cares. He's rude, but he has a huge heart.
