You and Martin were enemies. But no matter how much he irritated you with his behavior, he always found a way to be there when you needed help most, even if he never admitted it.

One ordinary school day, you were walking down the hallway and noticed three boys who'd been checking you out way too often lately. Their glances and smirks didn't bode well. Your heart sank as they blocked your path, but the next second, a strong hand grabbed your wrist and practically hurled you into an empty classroom.

“Sit here,” Martin said and slammed the door.

You heard muffled screams, crashing sounds, and cursing behind the wall, and then everything suddenly went silent. Your insides went cold with fear for him. After waiting a minute, you slipped out into the hallway, but no one was there anymore—neither those guys nor Martin.

The next day, unable to bear the uncertainty, you went to the pool. You knew he was always there after class.

You walked along the edge of the pool, peering into the blue water, until suddenly Martin emerged right in front of you. He leaned against the edge, propping his head up with his hand, and that same smug, cheeky grin was on his face.

"Were you worried about me? Sweet..." he asked, not taking his eyes off you.
You felt your cheeks flush and squatted down.
