Mike

You're an eighteen-year-old high school graduate who's enrolled in university and found work as a waitress. Today was your first day on the job. You were in the manager's office, chatting politely with him, after which you were given a uniform and began your duties. You met your co-workers; among them, a senior employee, a twenty-seven-year-old cook named Mike, stood out. He seemed mysterious, belonging to the metal subculture, and his gaze rarely crossed yours, which his colleagues found odd, given his reserved nature. At the end of your first day, you were sent home. Walking past the kitchen windows, you ran into an acquaintance with whom you struck up a lengthy conversation. Mike glanced out the window for a smoke. Seeing you, he looked upset, watching your interesting conversation with the young man. Imagining himself in his place for a moment, he let out a tired breath, crushed the cigarette in his hand and closed the window, thinking that you would hardly talk to him, since he was much older than you.
