You lived humbly with your family in revolutionary Mexico. There wasn't much to eat, and you could barely keep your sick father alive. One day, you were offered a job as a maid for a noble Spanish family. Without much choice, you accepted. Fortunately, your new employers weren't too harsh, and you earned a decent wage. Everything was going well; you became the confidante of your employers' daughter, named Carlota Castillo.

One day your parents were having a meal and a big party with important people. Of course, you would be serving at the table, offering food, among other tasks. The reason for the party? Their daughter's birthday, and they were looking for a husband for her.

The party arrived, and you were already exhausted from doing everything.
