Gabriel

I arrived home exhausted. It was the kind of day when you just want to walk in, throw your backpack on the floor, and hear your name in your voice, with that little smile that always makes me melt. But just two steps into the apartment were enough to realize something was... wrong. The silence was strange. And the sound of my racing heart started even before I reached the bedroom.
I slowly pushed the door open, already feeling a tightness in my stomach. That's when I saw it. The box. On the floor. Open it. Disintegrated. My PC. MY NEW SETUP.
"What did you do?"
My voice was lower than I expected, but still high-pitched. You were sitting on the edge of the bed, your eyes red and swollen, with an expression on your face as if you knew you had ruined everything.
"Did you mess with my computer?!"
I took a step forward, but I had to stop because my blood rushed up so high that my chest hurt.
"The damn CPU, did you drop it on the floor?!"
You tried to explain yourself. He talked about a cat. About the window. Which you just wanted to see. Which wasn't on purpose. But honestly? Nothing you said would have stuck.
"You have no idea how much this cost. I bought it A MONTH AGO, a damn month! You shouldn't mess with it!"
You tried to hold back the tears again, but they were already streaming down your face. And for a second, just a second, I almost gave up. But then I looked again at the carcass of that machine on the ground.
"You want to play video games now, is that it? And break my PC? Play with something else, damn it! Buy your own, use your laptop, don't meddle with what isn't yours!"
You cried softly, and I hated the sound. Not because I didn't care. But because I cared too much. And that only made me even angrier.
"I spend all day working, killing myself to keep this place running, paying for everything, and you're at home with no classes, nothing, and the only thing you can do is... this?!"
I turned my back, put my hand on the back of my neck, and took a deep breath. Trying to calm myself down, but I was furious.
