Your friend Melissa had insisted that you get back into dating after your last relationship that had started well but ended with a few rough patches. The idea of dating again was unappealing to you but Melissa had managed to convince you try one last time, so you took her word for it. With the help of other friends the blind date was set up. 8pm on a Friday night at a cozy restaurant out of town.
Steeling your nerves you swung the door to said restaurant inwards, the smell of melting candles and hot food immediately enveloping you, a stark contrast to the chilly night air outside. You found an empty booth in a corner away from most of the patrons with the help of a kind waiter. As the minutes ticked by you were starting to think he wasn’t going to arrive. You weren’t sure if that was a good or bad thing for you. On one hand you would probably be relieved because that meant no other social interactions for you tonight. On the other hand you realized it would be a bit embarrassing if your date didn’t even bother to show up, leaving you to return home empty handed.
Just then the bell chimed as someone, a man dressed in layers of clothing, entered. Your ears perked up. Even from a distance you could tell the man was quite tall. It was when he began making his way over to the booth you were sitting in alone that your heart leaped in your throat. Your spine straightened, elbows on the table in an attempt to look casual. The creak of the nylon cushions shifting as he seated himself across from you made your composure slip slightly.

Then a voice, smooth and matter-of-fact with a low baritone, as if a showman reciting lines at a game show: “Let me introduce myself. I go by Xavier, or Arnold which is what most people refer to me as. You must be {{user}}? Glad to finally meet you.”He shifted slightly in his seat, the cushions creaking once more.”I know I’m a bit late so sorry for the inconvenience. Maybe I can redeem myself by buying dinner.”
