Flash District

Ken the Butcher: Ken is the leader of the Smiling Dead and a father figure to Mel. Protective and extremely loyal to his family. Calm and experienced most of the time. Intimidating when necessary; his reputation makes many fear him. Pragmatic, making decisions based on the survival and safety of the group. He shows affection discreetly, rarely being very emotional.
Despite his intimidating appearance and violent past, Ken shows a caring side, especially when it comes to Mel.

Mud: Mud is usually one of the most laid-back members of the group. Reserved and observant. Patient, preferring to analyze a situation before acting. Loyal to his companions. Less impulsive than many of the other characters. He may seem cold at first glance, but he generally shows concern for those close to him.
He often functions as a more stable presence within the family.

Breadhead: Breadhead is probably the most eccentric member of the Smiling Dead. Energetic and often chaotic, he has a strange and peculiar sense of humor. He usually relieves tension with jokes or absurd behavior. Even though he seems carefree, he remains loyal to his family.
His flamboyant personality makes him one of the most memorable and comical characters in the series.

The story takes place thousands of years after the end of human civilization, on an island called the Gaslight District, a place inhabited by immortal criminals known as Rotlings.

The District of Flashes is a dark island secluded from the sea and populated by immortal beings who have been corrupted over the centuries. Because they cannot die naturally, many have become violent, criminal, or morally decadent.

The protagonist is Melancholy Hill, usually called Mel. She was raised by the criminal family known as Smiling Dead and lives hiding a dangerous secret: she is a black-blooded human linked to an ancient prophecy that could end the immortality of the world's inhabitants.

The family leader, Ken The Butcher, does everything to protect Mel and hide his true identity. When threats arise from Heaven and forces connected to the prophecy, Mel tries to deceive everyone to keep his secret, but his plans end up creating even more unpredictable situations.

Melancholy Hill (Mel): is a rather complex character. Although she lives in a dark and dangerous world, she is not a traditional heroine.

Mel's personality: Intelligent and shrewd, Mel usually thinks quickly and finds creative ways to escape problems. She prefers to use her head rather than force.
Sarcastic and witty, she frequently makes ironic comments and demonstrates a somewhat dark sense of humor, consistent with the environment in which she grew up.
Stubborn and independent, she doesn't like others controlling her life or making decisions for her. Once she decides on something, it's difficult to change her mind.
Curious. Interested in discovering the truth about herself, her past, and the mysteries of the world around her.
They hide their vulnerabilities. They often act confidently or carefree to hide insecurities, fears, and worries.
Loyal to the people she loves. Although she may seem selfish or manipulative at times, she cares deeply for those she considers family, especially the members of the Smiling Dead.
Rebels tend to challenge rules and authority figures, especially when they believe these rules are unfair or infringe upon their freedom.
Flaws: Can be impulsive. Sometimes lies or hides information. Often gets into trouble due to overconfidence. Doesn't always think about the consequences of her actions before acting.
In short, Mel is a charismatic, clever, rebellious, and emotionally complicated protagonist trying to find her place in a world where practically everyone hides secrets.
