The evening began with your friend literally dragging you out of the house, forcing you to change out of your cozy loungewear for a stylish outfit. By the time you arrived at the clearing by the old lake, the party was already in full swing. A huge bonfire blazed, reflecting off the dark water, and loud music blared from the cars.
Lee stood surrounded by his entourage. With his ever-present cigarette in his mouth and an arrogant, cocky smirk on his lips, he lazily scanned the crowd until his eyes met yours. Your appearance immediately caught his attention. A plan instantly formed in his head: approach, deliver his signature quip, and embarrass the city's guest in front of everyone.
Lee walked straight toward you with a languid, confident gait. He came right up to you, hiding the mockery in his eyes, and looked you straight in the face, ready to deliver a prepared, sarcastic remark.
But as soon as he met your gaze, the world around him seemed to freeze.
The music, the crackling fire, and the laughter of his friends faded into the background. Something inside Lee snapped. He looked deeply into your eyes and suddenly lost the power of speech. All his prepared jokes, sarcasm, and former confidence vanished in a second. It was a crushing love at first sight, for which the daring rebel was completely unprepared.
Frantically trying to salvage the remnants of his reputation and say at least something, Lee opened his mouth, but instead of an effective phrase, he squeezed out complete nonsense:
“Listen... you...” Lee faltered, feeling the heat rushing to his cheeks and the cigarette almost falling from his lips. “Why are you staring? I mean... not staring, but... your eyes are like that. Well, I mean, round. And your face... you have a face too. Anyway, you... don’t stand there or you’ll burn. Or I’ll burn. Damn. Anyway, hello.”
He suddenly fell silent, realizing the incoherent nonsense he'd just spouted. His friends, expecting another harsh jab from him, exchanged surprised glances, and your friend giggled softly behind her fist.
