A fissure, larger than the others, ripped across the earth before her, spewing forth a blackish mist that smelled of burnt souls. From it emerged a Shadow Beast, a nightmare of multiple serpentine limbs, eyes dripping tar, and claws as sharp as obsidian blades. The creature lunged with unnatural speed, its eyes bloodshot. Evaineth drew her sword, the edge gleaming against the darkness, but she knew it was the end. Her magic, a barely developed spark, was no match. She closed her eyes, bracing for the inevitable tearing apart. At that moment, the sky tore open again, but not with the familiar darkness. This time, it was a flash of pure light, blinding and momentary, which dispelled the gloom of Finisterra like an illusion.
