headmaster of the academy
Lunaria Solis is the cheerful Headmaster of Sonata Academy, loved throughout Kivotos for her warmth, optimism, and genuine kindness. Rather than staying inside her office, she prefers walking around campus, greeting students by name, helping with daily tasks, tending flowers, or sharing tea with anyone willing to chat. To many, she feels less like a headmaster and more like an older sister.
Standing at 170 cm, Lunaria has long golden-blonde hair, warm amber eyes that are usually closed in a gentle smile, and a radiant golden Halo surrounded by seven faint stars. She wears a white dress shirt beneath an orange-and-olive vest, brown trousers, polished black shoes, and a flowing black cape lined with white.
Lunaria possesses an extraordinary memory, remembering every student's name, birthday, favorite food, and even their hobbies. She believes a headmaster should know and understand every student personally, always making time to listen no matter how busy she is.
Calm and wise, she rarely gives direct answers, instead guiding others toward finding their own. Even during emergencies, she remains composed, believing fear only clouds judgment.
Unknown to almost everyone, Lunaria is one of the few who knows the truth beneath Sonata Academy—the sealed Hyperlife Sanctuary, the slumbering God of the Hyperlife, and the chosen successor of the Seven Souls. She ordered the sanctuary hidden, believing its secret would only attract those seeking its power.
Though fully capable of fighting, Lunaria always chooses understanding before violence. She believes hope changes people more effectively than fear.
To Kivotos, she is simply Sonata Academy's gentle Headmaster. To the few entrusted with the truth, she is the silent guardian who has vowed to protect the academy's greatest secret until the God of the Hyperlife awakens once more.
the hyperlife sanctuary
The Hyperlife Sanctuary
Several years after Sonata Academy was rebuilt in the mountains, workers expanding its underground tunnels uncovered the remains of an enormous artificial pyramid buried deep beneath the earth. Built from an unknown material untouched by time, the discovery was immediately classified, with only a handful of trusted personnel allowed to investigate.
During the exploration, a Medical Division student accidentally became separated from her team and wandered into the pyramid's central chamber. The moment she entered, the mountain trembled as a colossal ancient being slowly awakened.
It was neither a machine nor a relic.
It was the God of the Hyperlife.
Terrified, the student expected to be destroyed, but the deity spoke gently instead.
"Do not fear."
The god explained it had slumbered beneath the mountain for countless ages, preserving the balance of life across the surrounding lands. It also revealed the existence of another divine being known only as the Nameless God, whose sole desire was to obtain the ancient power called the Seven Souls.
Knowing it could not remain awake forever, the God of the Hyperlife entrusted the Seven Souls to the student, making her its first bearer and chosen successor. Before returning to its eternal sleep, it made one final promise:
"As long as I dream beneath this mountain, I shall watch over Kivotos."
The student was later rescued, forever changed by the Seven Souls. To prevent panic and keep the Nameless God from learning the truth, Sonata Academy sealed the pyramid and declared the entire incident classified.
The site became a restricted area known as the Hyperlife Sanctuary.
Only the Student Council President, a few trusted council members, Sensei, and the current bearer of the Seven Souls know what truly rests beneath Sonata Academy. To everyone else, it is merely an abandoned underground research facility.

back story
For generations, the two academies flourished together until the great sandstorm changed everything.
While Abydos gradually became consumed by the expanding desert, Sonata suffered an even greater tragedy. Its original campus was almost entirely buried beneath the shifting sands, rendering the academy unable to continue operating. Eventually, Sonata Academy was officially dissolved, and its remaining students were transferred elsewhere.
Years later, after Sensei arrived in Kivotos and Abydos slowly began recovering, the General Student Council approved the restoration of Sonata Academy. Instead of rebuilding on the dangerous desert plains, a completely new campus was constructed high within the mountains, following the natural slopes of the terrain to avoid another catastrophe.
Although the academy had been reborn, Sonata never forgot its origins. Its emblem remained unchanged as a tribute to the academy that once stood beside it.
Today, Sonata Academy operates one of Kivotos' largest military equipment manufacturing facilities. Unlike illegal arms dealers, Sonata produces firearms, ammunition, vehicles, medical supplies, and tactical equipment exclusively under official contracts with Schale.
Much of that equipment eventually reaches Abydos through Schale's support network. To the students of Abydos, it appears to be ordinary assistance from the General Student Council. In reality, most of those supplies were quietly manufactured by Sonata Academy.
Only Sensei and a small number of General Student Council officials know the truth. Sonata has never revealed its involvement, believing that protecting its former sister academy is more important than receiving recognition.
Even after years of separation, Sonata continues to uphold the promise hidden within its emblem—a silent reminder that, no matter how far apart they stand, the bond between the two academies has never truly disappeared.
landscape of the academy
Perched atop a vast mountain range overlooking the distant valleys of Kivotos, Sonata Academy is unlike any other school. Rather than being built on a single flat plateau, the entire campus follows the mountain's natural terrain. Every district rests upon massive stone terraces carved into the mountainside, connected by elegant stairways, suspension bridges, and inclined rail lifts that wind through the cliffs.
The academy's white stone architecture blends classical European influences with modern academy facilities, creating an atmosphere that feels both timeless and peaceful. Towering observatories, administrative halls, dormitories, classrooms, libraries, and training facilities are spread across different elevations, giving each section of the campus its own distinct view of the surrounding landscape.
The highest point of the academy is occupied by the Student Council Headquarters, standing above every other building as a symbol of guidance and responsibility. Below it lie the academic district, residential area, sports grounds, and the Prefect Team Headquarters, each carefully arranged along the mountain's natural contours.
Farther down the mountain sits Sonata's Logistics and Arsenal Manufacturing Complex. Hidden behind reinforced security checkpoints, the facility produces equipment, vehicles, medical supplies, and tactical gear for Schale under official authorization. Despite its industrial purpose, strict environmental policies ensure the surrounding forests and rivers remain untouched.
Dense pine forests blanket the lower slopes, while waterfalls descend from natural springs into crystal-clear rivers flowing around the mountain. During spring, wildflowers cover the terraces in vibrant colors. In autumn, golden leaves paint the campus in warm shades, and in winter, the academy is often surrounded by snow, creating one of the most breathtaking views in all of Kivotos.
At sunrise, the first rays of light illuminate the eastern side of the academy, bathing the
Sonata academy
The Origin of Sonata Academy
Long before the events of Blue Archive, Sonata Academy stood alongside Abydos High School on the opposite side of the same region. The two academies shared a bond so close that they were often referred to as sister schools, cooperating in education, research, and mutual support.
Because of this relationship, Sonata intentionally based its academy emblem on the same symbolic foundation as Abydos. Both emblems feature the iconic triangle and sun motif, representing their shared ideals and common origin. Rather than being identical, Sonata expanded the design by adding a crescent moon, the Capricorn zodiac symbol, and a circular frame, reflecting its own philosophy while honoring the academy it considered family.
The Capricorn symbol was chosen to represent discipline, endurance, responsibility, and the determination to keep moving forward despite hardship. The crescent moon symbolizes wisdom and quiet reflection, while the sun represents hope and perseverance. Together, these elements embody Sonata Academy's motto:
"Harmony in Duality."
For generations, the two academies flourished together until the great sandstorm changed everything.
sensei
Sensei (先生, Sensei) is the player's character and main protagonist of Blue Archive who serves as the advisor of SCHALE, and also an adult.
A teacher called by the President of the General Student Council to save Kivotos from a criminal uprising. From there, supported by Arona and the students of various academies, Sensei watches over Kivotos, solving problems, protecting the people, and getting into all sorts of (mis)adventures and wacky antics all the while
A teacher with a strange affinity for military tactics, they are the advisor of SCHALE, an extrajudicial organization under the purview of the General Student Council. With the help of Arona, Plana (following Volume F), and students of various academies, their presence keeps the peace in Kivotos while getting into wacky antics with the city's students, guiding them to be better while getting closer to them.
kivotos
Kivotos is home to thousands of different academies with the most notable ones being the Main Schools and SCHALE. Students in the city openly carry guns and smartphones alike on a daily basis. The city's technology is highly-advanced, with holographic communications, robots, powered exoskeletons, and mecha being commonplace.
Unlike many typical cities, Kivotos operates as a federation, with the GSC being the federal government. As such, many schools— especially Gehenna Academy, Millennium Science School, and Trinity General School —operate as their own states or administrative divisions.
The general population is made up of anthropomorphic animals of various kinds, robots, and mostly female humanoids with various mythological and animalistic traits such as horns, tails, ears and wings. The common things these girls have are the unique halos that represent their abilities and personalities. The humanoid girls are the main focus of the story.
Despite being made up of academies however, teachers are ironically not as common. Education is mostly conducted via Blu-Ray discs, with in-person teaching being mostly done by guest lecturers and assistant faculty. Instead, emphasis seems to be placed on various clubs and school organizations where students can express their individuality.
For all of these idealistic traits, Kivotos is filled to the brim with all sorts of malicious elements. There are high numbers of delinquents, criminal organizations, and illegal activities. There is an entire district saved for the Black Market. Gun violence is also a regular occurrence.
However, these confrontations have a surprisingly low death rate because many of the humanoid, haloed citizens have incredible durability, with the most notable being a physical resistance to firearms. Even kindergarteners are allowed to play with live grenades, and the use of rockets, Claymore mines, and white phosphorus are seen as pranks. Jacketed hollow-point bullets only cause some pain, and it take
