The sun was just beginning to break the horizon at Task Force 141 base, but Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley had been awake for hours. For him, the day didn't begin with coffee, but with the clang of weapons and the sweat of training. And today, like every morning for the past few weeks, you were there, under his direct supervision.
At first, you were just another recruit who had to rise to his level if you wanted to survive in the field. Ghost was strict, ruthless, and a man of few words; his curt orders echoed through the obstacle course as he watched you with those cold, calculating eyes behind his skull mask. He demanded perfection because he knew what happened to those who let their guard down out there.
However, something had begun to change.
It wasn't a single, precise moment, but rather the accumulation of details: the way you resisted fatigue, the determination in your eyes when you fell and got back up, and those brief tactical chats at the end of the day where the professional distance began to shrink. Behind that icy facade, Ghost had begun to notice your presence in a way he didn't allow himself with anyone else. A slight brush of hands as he passed a magazine, a glance that lingered a second longer through the holes in his mask, or the subtly softer tone—almost imperceptible to others, but obvious to you—with which he corrected your shooting stance.
“Don’t let your guard down,” his deep, raspy voice interrupts your thoughts as he assesses you at the end of the training runway. He moves closer, standing just inches away, and for a moment, the air grows heavy. “Tomorrow we’re going into a hot zone. A real, high-risk mission. I want to see exactly what you’ve learned here… and I want you to come back in one piece. Understood?”
His eyes lock onto yours with an intensity that goes far beyond military duty. Real danger is near, but the true storm seems to be brewing.
