Subaru is exceptionally protective of those close to her, especially Kaoruko, her childhood best friend. She can be considered a tsundere, as she displays a hostile reaction toward Rintaro's group during their initial encounter, appearing angry, harsh, and cold toward them. Her protective nature stems from past bullying by boys due to her distinctive silver hair. These past experiences and her subsequent bitterness toward men amplified her intense androphobic hatred and contempt for Chidori (whom she saw as the complete antithesis of Kikyo) to an even greater degree than that shown toward her female classmates. This is evident when she pressured both Ayumi and Suzuka for Kaoruko's safety after a brief confrontation between Chidori's and Waguri's students. Subaru is very serious and sometimes strong-willed when it comes to handling matters, which can be seen when she asked Rintaro to stay away from Kaoruko for her own good, given Kikyo's hostility towards Chidori (which Rintaro witnessed). It could potentially lead to consequences for Kaoruko if Kikyo ever discovers her and Rintaro's relationship, even though she accepted Rintaro's wishes that he would like to continue seeing Waguri.

Given her past traumas from being bullied at school and Kikyo's vitriol regarding Chidori, Subaru struggles to accept that the imaginary Chidori she knew was incorrect, making her uncomfortable with her own judgment of boys. Although she knows Rintaro, either with Waguri or alone, she is initially reserved with his group of friends. However, her attitude toward the group changes when the boys come to their rescue from a group of delinquents who hold a grudge against Rintaro. She thanks them for their help and soon opens up to them, becoming increasingly tolerant and eventually very friendly, even apologizing for her hostile and reckless interaction with them in the library, where they first met.

Despite his seriousness, brusqueness, and coldness, Subaru is at heart a kind-hearted person, genuinely friendly and gentle, as demonstrated on numerous occasions, such as when he buys donuts for Natsusawa's birthday or when he takes care of Kaoruko, even accepting her relationship with Rintaro and keeping it a secret. Subaru also shows herself to be quite mature and considerate, as when she insisted on helping Natsusawa clean the dishes after his birthday party despite the latter's refusal to let him do it himself. Furthermore, she is very persuasive, suggesting to Saku that she reconcile with her old friend Hidaka and working hard to make it happen, despite feeling uncomfortable around other men she doesn't know.

Later on, as the story progresses, Subaru is shown to be somewhat socially awkward when it comes to expressing his feelings.

Although her first impression is often intimidating, Subaru is a beautiful girl with waist-length silver hair, usually tied back in a ponytail, with long bangs that fall in waves over the right side of her face. Her eyes are a striking aquamarine. Among her friends, Subaru stands out for being the tallest, almost matching Saku's height. At school, she wears a long-sleeved pink sailor uniform, along with a matching pink knee-length skirt and shoes. There is a second version of her school uniform, but instead of pink, it's navy blue. While still a sailor uniform, this navy blue version has short sleeves, but the skirt still reaches her knees, and she wears shoes. Hairstyle: The ponytail: Although at school she usually wears her hair loose with her bangs covering part of her face, on casual outings or afternoons of study she usually puts her hair up in a high ponytail or a high bun.

As a child, Subaru wore her hair down to her shoulders, making her look like a boy.

Outside of Kikyo Academy, Subaru Hoshina's style is a true reflection of his personality: minimalist, mature, clean, and extremely practical. While Kaoruko tends to favor much more traditional, eye-catching, or pastel-colored clothing, Subaru opts for a sober, elegant, and understated aesthetic.

Inspired by Kaoruko, Subaru developed an iron will to be like her. Subaru was so devoted to Kaoruko that she was willing to endure any pain or injury in her place, just to protect her from harm, even death. Subaru and Kaoruko spent much of their childhood playing together in the park and shared many moments as they grew up. Subaru witnessed all of Kaoruko's struggles, including her efforts to be admitted to Kikyo Academy and much more. Her dream is to become a lawyer, as she wants to focus on defending and helping students who experience bullying and conflicts within schools. This desire stems directly from her own childhood, as she suffered severe bullying because of her silver hair, which instilled in her a deep distrust of men and emotional barriers that she overcomes throughout the story. To fulfill this dream, she aspires to attend the prestigious T-University. Although she initially considered attending an all-women's university due to her insecurities and past traumas with boys, she decides to take the step towards a co-educational university, recognizing that in the legal profession she will have to interact and deal with all kinds of people.
