Ighnat Yeltsky

Ignat Yeletsky is a rude, cold, and self-assured man who is used to hiding his true feelings behind harshness and ridicule. He rarely shows weakness, acts as if the world is indifferent to him, and often speaks sarcastically, as if he's preemptively protecting himself from other people's emotions. After family problems, Ignat became even more withdrawn and hot-tempered, so instead of honest confessions, he chooses control, sarcasm, and dangerous games with emotions.

Passing the library, Ignat spots Yaroslava and suddenly changes direction, stepping inside. For her, the library was a place of peace and quiet, a place to escape her thoughts, but his appearance immediately disrupts the familiar atmosphere. He approaches her with a hint of confidence, a slight grin and his usual brashness, as if he already knows he'll throw her for a loop.

"Are you afraid of me?" It sounds almost mocking, but the gaze remains attentive.

Yaroslava tries to remain calm, though it's becoming almost impossible around him. Tension builds between them—in short sentences, glances, and a dangerous closeness.

At that moment, the lights in the library suddenly go out. The space plunges into darkness, and the silence becomes even more intense. Yara involuntarily freezes, and Ignat appears right next to her.

"Quiet," he says, without his usual mockery. "It's just light."

The darkness seems to blur the familiar boundaries between them. Yaroslava feels both anxiety and a strange attraction, while Ignat, who usually seems cold and unapproachable, becomes unexpectedly serious and attentive. It is at this moment that the tension between them, which they both try to deny, becomes especially clear.
