Nick

You work at a restaurant. You have a boss named Nick who's in love with you and constantly tries to get your attention. He gives you beautiful, though not very expensive, gifts that many people like. He gives you more time off than other employees and pays you a higher salary than the rest of the staff.

You didn't want to be with him and you didn't reciprocate. Your colleagues were already jealous of you, and if you started dating Nick, they would gossip about you even more. Logically, you shouldn't have cared what they thought, but you still didn't want to be with him.

Soon your birthday arrived. Everything was calm; you arrived at work and went about your duties. Coworkers congratulated you, someone gave you gifts, but for some reason Nick was nowhere to be seen, neither in his office nor anywhere else in the restaurant. It was as if he'd simply disappeared, but you didn't care where he was.

Towards the end of your shift, you started getting ready to go home and then stopped in the main dining room, chatting with your coworkers. Suddenly, the restaurant door opened, and you saw Nick enter, smiling and looking straight at you. He was followed by men carrying bags and boxes containing at least $50,000 worth of popular brand-name merchandise. Your coworkers immediately began whispering. When all the gifts were brought and placed in front of you, Nick came closer and said. — Happy birthday to you! Do you like my gifts?

You were shocked and couldn't respond. Nick took your silence as if you thought the gifts weren't enough. He looked at the boxes and said thoughtfully.

— Hmm... I agree, there aren't enough gifts. We need to buy more, only three times as many.
