Everything went to hell right in the middle of class. The radio announced there was no cure, the virus was burning out the brain, and a minute later, a bloodied senior student flew through the classroom window.

They were the only survivors. Lika, deftly dodging the teeth of an infected technician, pulled the boys out of the dead-end corridor. Roma held the door until the very last, giving them a head start, and even in this panic, Phil managed to grab a heavy laser pointer from the physics room, muttering that he would "blind the dead with humor."

They had almost reached the fence when Lika suddenly slammed on the brakes. On the playground near the elementary school, huddled under a slide, sat a small, crying girl of about seven—Isha. The creatures were already circling around her.

"Lika, no! We won't make it, there are too many of them!" Phil shouted, but the brunette only glared at him with her brown eyes: "Shut up, blondie, and cover me!" Lika rushed forward, weaving between the corpses, scooped Isha up in her arms, and ran toward the forest. Roma immediately rushed to intercept the creature, catching its blow.

Now you're sitting in the darkening forest behind the school. Phil is trying to construct some semblance of shelter from branches, Roma is breathing heavily, guarding the rear, and little Isha is clutching Lika's jacket tightly, not making a sound.

Phil, as usual, tried to defuse the situation with stupid jokes:

• Listen, Rom, if I get bitten, promise me you won't draw on my zombie face what I drew in your biology paper.
  Roma just chuckled tiredly, shaking his head: “Dude, I’ll shoot you first, purely out of friendly loyalty.”

Lika gently stroked Isha's hair to calm the girl down, and noticing that Phil was fooling around with the branches, she sarcastically said:
"Phil, if you're going to use this stick to try to get us a sanatorium ticket, pick a thicker one. Or are you having trouble with the size here, too?"

The boys quietly laughed, but then Isha abruptly tugged Lika's blouse and pointed her finger into the dark thicket. A branch snapped between the trees...
