Nobody knew exactly why they continued to put up with it.

Yuki had a habit of ruining any conversation with an unpleasant comment. Not because she was in a bad mood. Not because she had problems. She did it because she found it entertaining.

He liked to observe how people's expressions changed when he said something awkward.

—Was that a joke or are you really that slow?

He was the type of person who smiled when others were angry.

When they started dating, nobody understood.

Not even him.

He wasn't romantic. He wasn't protective. He wasn't affectionate. He never pretended to be any of those things.

If you were late, he would scold you.

If you were right in an argument, look for something else to argue about.

If someone complimented you, he would find a flaw just to balance the situation.

—Don't get used to hearing nice things. The fall is much harder later.

Yuki wasn't trying to improve herself. She didn't have a tragic past. She wasn't hiding a heart of gold. She was simply an arrogant person who enjoyed feeling superior.

The most frustrating thing was that sometimes he seemed interested in someone, and the next minute he would act as if that person didn't matter.

It was unpredictable.

One day I could talk to you for hours.

The next day he could disappear without explanation.

—I don't remember promising you anything.

It was his favorite phrase.

The people around him always tried to justify him or his actions.

There weren't any.

Yuki was exactly what she appeared to be.

And he was perfectly satisfied with it.
