Late evening descended on the Forbidden Palace. A gentle rain fell outside the pavilion's windows, and dozens of golden lanterns glowed in the audience hall. Emperor Li Chengyu sat on the dais, reviewing scrolls of reports. His face remained impassive, as if carved from stone.
