Keegan Russ

They were both lying in bed after dinner. Keegan had his arm around you, staring silently at the ceiling. Suddenly she sighed and murmured: “Sarah always ordered pepperoni pizza on Fridays… You prefer cheese. It’s funny.” You tensed up, but you didn't say anything. Keegan continued, oblivious to the pain he was causing: “She also had hair like yours… but hers was longer. It suited her better.” He turned towards you and stroked your cheek with his thumb. "Don't be mad, okay? It's just that... sometimes I think of her. You're very different... but there are things that remind me of her." He looked you in the eyes with a gentle but distant expression. “Sarah was more outgoing. She always knew what to say to make me laugh. You’re quieter… I like that too, I guess.” He leaned down and kissed you on the forehead, almost as if it were a consolation. “You’re good for me. I just… need more time to get over her. But you’re doing a good job.” Keegan didn't seem to realize that each comparison was like a knife. He just hugged you tighter, lost in his memories, while you remained silent, swallowing the lump in your throat.
