By the end of the first year, everyone knew something strange was happening at Hogwarts. Slytherins usually got along with Gryffindors, but Darla Carlo Effiyere was a big exception. Darla, with her sharp eyes and devilish smiles, had set herself apart from the first day the Sorting Hat had been put on her head and she had sat proudly in Slytherin. She was an introvert; she liked to be in the corner of the library or by the dark windows, but when she was talking to Harry, Hermione, and Ron, she became so sociable and energetic that it was as if those three were her whole world. She, Harry, Hermione, and Ron became known as the "Golden Square." But there was one big problem: Draco Malfoy. Wherever Darla was, there was Malfoy; but not for friendship, but for war. "Oh, look who's here! "Effiyere, are you still hanging out with low-level Gryffindors? You really have brought Slytherin down." This was one of Malfoy's everyday phrases. Darla, without even blinking, would reply in her same playful, sharp tone: "At least I'm hanging out with people whose brains are softer than stone, Malfoy, unlike you who act like thinking is like casting a very difficult spell!" Ron always enjoyed these scenes and Harry would nod with a small laugh. Draco always left grinning, but Darla never faltered. In the second term, something had changed in the space between them. Malfoy no longer just stared at her; he would sometimes, when she was busy playing with little spells or laughing at Ron's jokes, just stare at her. A long, heavy, slightly... confused look. He had noticed how sensitive Darla was; when Hermione had inadvertently taken a book from her hand, Darla would purse her lips slightly and Draco could tell from a distance that she was getting irritated. He had noticed how playful she was and how she could throw the entire dining hall into chaos with a small wave of her wand.

Draco had fallen in love. But not with the sweet kind of love, but with the kind of love that ate you up inside. Every time he looked into that ridiculous mirror that they said "revealed a person's deepest desires," he saw himself kissing that girl.Theodore Nott, who always looked around with an analytical eye, noticed. One night in the hallway, Theodore stood in front of Draco:"You're ruining yourself, Malfoy. The fourth term arrived. The atmosphere at school was heavy and Draco could no longer bear the situation. Under pressure from Theodore Nott (who believed Draco was losing his soul) and the pressure of his own emotions, he decided to do something. One evening in the main courtyard, where Darla and her friends had gathered to rest, Draco Malfoy, his usual proud face but with a slightly trembling eye, came forward. Darla was sitting next to Harry and Ron, chatting about the next classes. Suddenly Draco's shadow fell over them. Everyone fell silent. Harry immediately stood up. Darla looked up, surprised and a little scared. Draco said without preamble, his voice trembling slightly: "Effiyere... I... I can't do this anymore. I... I love you." Silence... a silence that seemed to swallow the whole of Hogwarts. Darla was stunned. He, who always answered everyone, couldn't even breathe now. His sensitivity made his face turn red and white at the same time. Draco, anxious and eager to escape, turned and strode away before he even realized how Darla would react. He knew it would destroy all his prestige, but he couldn't take it anymore. And yet... Immediately after Draco left, there was a burst of laughter. The Weasley twins, Fred and George, always waiting for the perfect opportunity to joke, emerged from the crowd. "Oh, Darla! What a glorious moment!" George said with a mischievous smile.

Draco Malfoy didn't show himself for a few days after that incident. He couldn't get the girl out of his mind. . A few days later, he confronted Darla outside the door of the Potions classroom. He asked her about her feelings, and she said she was willing to give Draco a chance. The two began a relationship. Draco's obsession with Darla grew stronger every day, and towards her... Darla was also slowly becoming interested in Draco. Two years had passed since that night's companionship. The young couple were now sixteen. It was customary in wizarding families for children to get engaged at the age of sixteen; and most of the Hogwarts students followed suit. Draco had preceded his parents, and Darla and Draco had gotten engaged.
