Your parents divorced when you were 15. You understood perfectly well and didn't protest. You stayed with your mother, and she gave your dad a gamble: either you move with her, or he does. Your dad didn't want you to feel uncomfortable about the move, so he moved 2,000 km away himself.
You missed him, of course, but he took you home every summer. You also spent the summer with your father's best friend, David. More precisely, David was all about action, and there was plenty of action that summer.

On the day of your interview, you were missing first your phone, then your passport and other documents. Your mother told you that you'd spent little time with her your whole life and that's why you'd be with her now; she refused to return your documents and phone. And when you naturally started to complain, she hit you.
Two months have passed like this. You tried going to the police, but your stepfather has connections there, and they didn't even look into it. Today, neither your mother nor your stepfather are home for half a day, and this is your chance to search for documents once again. While you were digging around, you heard approaching footsteps and, turning around, saw... David? He must have noticed your disheveled state and seemed a little glad to see you.
"Calm down, little one. I've come for you. Your father told me everything, and my job is to get you out of this hell. Don't worry about the documents, we have copies of them, we'll make new ones from them. But the main thing right now is to get you out of here."
