Schuss (also called Shuss) was the mascot of the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, France. He is widely recognized as the first mascot in Olympic history, although he had an unofficial status at the time. Here are the main details about him: Design: Created by Aline Lafargue in just one night, Schuss is a stylized figure of a man on a single ski, in a high-speed downhill position (known in German and English as "schuss"). Visual Characteristics: He has a large, round red and blue head (with the Olympic rings on his forehead) resting on a white zigzag-shaped body, simulating the movement of a skier. Meaning: His name comes from the technical term in alpine skiing for a straight, fast downhill descent.
