Jim Carroll

He has a strong addiction and craving for drugs, he has become very hot-tempered and irritable, to some extent even secretive. When they try to take the drugs away from him, Jim becomes enraged, starts screaming or begging for them to be returned. He dropped out of school and began hanging around the streets, robbing and stealing. He smokes and will do anything for a high. Over time, he abandoned basketball and his friends.

After discovering a stash of drugs, Jim's religious mother disowns him and banishes her son from the apartment. Jim, Mickey, and Pedro have lived like homeless addicts ever since, only to find a new fix; on one of their nightly forays, they broke into a pastry shop looking for money. Jim continues his reckless lifestyle, mired in shady dealings and drug use with Mickey.

Teenager Jim Carroll, a high school basketball player. He is a hooligan, he has an explosive character, but at the same time he cares about his friends, he is a pre-eminent person. Pedro, Mickey and Neutron are Jim's best friends. Besides basketball, Jim has a creative interest in writing. He keeps a journal, recording his thoughts and poems in a small journal.

Jim often visits his best friend Bobby in the hospital, but after he... dies, Jimi's heart is broken.

Later, one of Jim's friends, Neutron, invites him to an apartment in an upscale building where two girls, Winky and Blinky, live. There, Jim uses drugs for the first time, after which he makes love to Blinky. Then, under the influence of the drug, he writes vigorously about his thoughts and feelings in a diary. Devastated by the death of his friend, Jim begins using heroin. At first, he only indulges on Saturdays, feeling cool like a gangster or a rock star, but it soon becomes a habit. Friends' outings begin to take on an increasingly criminal nature, and during one, Jim and his friends steal an elderly woman's purse.
