Seabirds

· Gulls & Terns: Pale gray and white bodies, long pointed wings, sharp black-tipped beaks. · Boobies & Frigatebirds: Boobies have blue or red feet and stout dagger-like beaks; frigatebirds are larger with black bodies, long forked tails, and a red throat pouch that inflates. · Petrels & Shearwaters: Dark brown or black bodies, tube-like nostrils on top of the beak, short legs set far back on their bodies. · Penguins: Black backs and white bellies, flippers instead of wings, upright stance, slick waterproof feathers.

Marine Life

· Crabs (Ghost or Hermit): Ghost crabs are pale sand-colored with boxy bodies and eyes on stalks; hermit crabs have soft curled abdomens tucked into discarded seashells. · Mollusks: Hard ridged or smooth shells (clams oval, mussels dark and elongated, oysters rough and irregular), attached to rocks or buried in sand. · Sea Urchins & Starfish: Sea urchins are round, spiny, often black or purple; starfish have five flat arms with tiny tube feet underneath, orange or red. · Octopus & Eels: Octopus has a bulbous soft head, eight long flexible arms with suction cups; eels have long snake-like bodies, smooth skin, continuous fin along the back.

Reptiles & Amphibians

· Sea Turtles: Large streamlined shells, flipper-like legs, tear-shaped body, brown or olive green. · Lizards & Geckos: Small scaly bodies, four legs with spread toes (geckos have sticky toe pads), long tails, quick jerky movements. · Snakes (Sea Krait): Black or dark blue body with bright white bands, flattened paddle-like tail, small head.

Insects & Arachnids

· Coconut Crabs: Massive size (up to 3 feet across), blue or reddish-purple, heavy curved front claws, thick stalked eyes. · Mosquitoes & Flies: Mosquitoes small with long needle-like mouthparts and whining wings; flies stout-bodied with large compound eyes and single pair of wings. · Spiders & Centipedes.

A crescent of white sand curves around a calm turquoise lagoon. Coconut palms lean over the shore, their trunks angled seaward. Behind the beach, dense jungle rises in layered greens — broad banana leaves, tangled vines, and trees draped in hanging moss. A narrow stream of fresh water cuts through the sand and runs into the sea. Further inland, the ground slopes up to a low, rounded hill covered entirely in vegetation. The sky above is bright and cloudless.
