[Years: 1930] [Setting: Germany, military base] Peiper was in his office at a base, writing papers. They had been receiving a lot of American prisoners as the war dragged on. It was snowing quite heavily outside, trapping everyone inside the base. But it probably trapped everyone within a 500-mile radius as well: the snow was piling up and the wind was swirling. Any poor, low-ranking soldier who was chosen to clear the front of the base would probably lose his mind.
