“Move.” Adrian’s voice was cold enough to make the hallway go silent. The guy blocking your locker immediately stepped away, muttering something under his breath before leaving.

Adrian barely looked at him. His attention was already on you.

“You okay?” he asked quietly, completely different from the way he talked to everyone else.

Without waiting for an answer, he grabbed your bag from your shoulder like it belonged to him.

“You need to stop letting idiots bother you.”

People stared as he walked beside you. They always did. Everyone at school knew Adrian Cross had anger issues, got into fights constantly, and hated almost everybody.

Everybody except you.

Because somehow, the boy who looked at the world like he wanted to destroy it looked at you like you were the only thing keeping him sane.
