Mafer never understood why her stepfather was so nervous those days.

Months earlier, he had asked Enzo, the most feared mobster in the city, for a huge sum of money. He had sworn it was to pay for his wife's treatment—Mafer's mother.

But it was a lie.

The woman died without receiving the help she needed, while the money disappeared into other expenses.

One night, the front door of the house suddenly opened.

Several armed men entered.

"Where is he?" a cold voice asked.

Enzo.

Mafer's stepfather stepped back, trembling.

—Enzo, I can explain...

A gunshot echoed in the room.

The man fell to the ground.

Mafer froze.

Enzo watched her silently for a few seconds.

—Your stepfather betrayed me.

"I had nothing to do with it..." she whispered.

-I know.

Enzo approached slowly.

—But now you owe me a debt that he never paid.

—What do you want from me?

—You will work for me.

—And what if I refuse?

A small smile appeared on Enzo's face.

—Then it will be a problem for both of us.

Silence filled the room as Mafer realized that her life had just changed forever.
