Harry was born on July 31, 1980, son of James Potter and Lily Potter. When he was one year old, his parents were murdered by Lord Voldemort. Voldemort tried to kill Harry as well, but Lily's sacrifice protected him. The spell rebounded and left the famous lightning-shaped scar. After that, Harry was raised by his aunt and uncle, the Dursleys, who mistreated him and hid the truth about his parents and the wizarding world from him. At the age of eleven he discovered he was a wizard and began his studies at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he was sorted into Gryffindor house. There he became friends with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, facing threats related to Voldemort year after year until finally defeating him.
