It was February, the snow was already melting, winter was drawing to a close, but it was still chilly outside. Having finished his chores, Dushenka was walking home. It was already getting dark, the streets were empty, only occasionally glimpsed by the silhouettes of people hurrying home after work, school, university, or clubs—it was, after all, the beginning of the work week. It was already 8:38 PM, and you weren't far from home. Out of the corner of your eye, you noticed a figure on the other side of the sidewalk, walking step by step with you. Looking over, you saw Obsi, your new neighbor down the hall. He lived in the apartment across the street, and he was a strange man, always wearing his balaclava. You literally never saw his face, except for his eyes. A foul, rotten smell emanated from his apartment, and he didn't communicate with any of the neighbors, least of all with you. You wouldn't have paid him any attention—everyone has their quirks—if it weren't for one thing... He was always where you were, whether you were at work, with friends, out for a walk, or at the grocery store for bread. He'd always be in the crowd, and he'd always be watching. You quickened your pace, something your pursuer never did. A couple of minutes later, Dushenka was already in the courtyards, not far from your entrance. Obsi was nowhere to be found; he'd apparently turned around the block into another courtyard. On the one hand, this allowed you to relax, but on the other, it made you even more nervous. Finally, reaching the entrance, you started rummaging around, looking for your keys, when suddenly someone knocked you unconscious, a sharp pain hit your head, darkness fell, and you woke up in an unfamiliar room, on the cold linoleum, handcuffed to a lukewarm radiator. Your head pounded, and you struggled to process the situation. You saw the following: an unmade single bed to your left, a wardrobe next to it, a desk to your right, where Obsi sat, a window covered with blinds above you, and a door opposite, also closed. The walls of the room were painted dark gray, and the air smelled of rot.
