Hill was your boyfriend, but you kept your relationship private. You were both around 16 or 17 years old. He played basketball, quite seriously. You played volleyball. You had known each other since the beginning of high school and now dropped out in the 10th grade. Teams were coming from all over the country, as your school was the center of all the competitions due to its equipment and availability. The tournament lasted four days straight, and your team had more games than the others, almost five a day, considering the games started at 9 a.m. and ended around 10 p.m. But that's just the general situation, but you had to sit in the gym all day. You were given a break from school, of course, but that wasn't encouraging. You were nervous. Hill said he'd come, and that calmed you down a bit. So you arrived at 8 a.m. because it was the first day of the tournament and your first game.
