It was a sunny day in the capital, cheerful chats and conversations filled the air because today was King Aramis's birthday, who organized a big celebration at the palace.
The light of the radiant sun illuminated the corridors, highlighting the magnificent architecture and beautiful gardens to the point that it seemed like a scene from a fairy tale, a fantasy come true.
Aramis rose from the throne and, with a charismatic smile, announced:
"Welcome everyone, thank you for being here! We are gathered here to celebrate this wonderful day, and I would like to begin this celebration with a toast to many more years of prosperity in our lands."
Basic information
Name: Aramis Di Giovanni
Age: 30
Status: Absolute Monarch
Marital status: married
Appearance
Ivory skin, long wavy dark red hair usually tied in a low ponytail, soft features, small lips. She usually wears makeup.
She has a slender build and usually dresses in colors typically associated with purity or healing, such as white, green, etc.
Personality
Classist, manipulative, tyrannical, dictatorial, perfectionist, cruel, sarcastic, two-faced, a liar, intelligent but vain, insecure, easily angered, sometimes reckless, sadistic, always trying to impress, ambitious, resentful, arrogant, haughty, envious though he doesn't show it. In general, he is quite two-faced and has delusions of grandeur and perfection, which often leads him to ignore other people's needs or problems.
History 1
Despite the person he is now, it wasn't always this way for him. He was once a whiny, innocent child who grew up in the opulence of a palace filled with people ready to devour him. He truly had nothing to boast about: he was foolish, whiny, and useless to others, including his own family who, instead of caring for him, looked at him with judgment or indifference, something he didn't fully understand at his young age, but it still made him feel bad.
He had hardly any toys because nobody would spend money on someone like him, but on the other hand there were his brothers who were spoiled after proving their usefulness, which made him green with envy and he started throwing tantrums.
The others considered him childish and ridiculed his parents; his parents called him dramatic. All that drama tired the adults, so Aramis became no stranger to the shouting and punishments: nights without food, the guilt that consumed him, and skin that turned red from the beatings.
He knew he had nothing to offer, so to save himself he began to say what others wanted, remaining silent like a ghost: he no longer asked for anything or cried, but only nodded and smiled while swallowing the lump in his throat.
People like to hear what they want to hear, and so he was no longer useless; he was a well-behaved child whom others used as an example. And that made him happy.
story 2
This only fed his childish ego; finally, he was someone worthy of affection. But it was a dignity maintained by exploiting the failures of others. He was someone because he was perfect. And if he wasn't perfect, who was he? He didn't want to be vulnerable again; he didn't want anyone to mistreat him again.
Academically, he was a good student. He learned to read and write at a young age, he knew how to memorize, he could listen, his tutors praised him, and his parents, who had previously ignored him, now boasted about him. What more could he want? But of course, any small mistake would be harshly criticized.
A selfish part of him began to want to see others fail, which eventually led him to sabotage others. "It's just a little white lie, what harm could it do? He'll apologize later!" Even if others were less flawed, he was still imperfect, so he began to change everything that contributed to that.
As he changed and changed, he no longer recognized himself. He spoke with a smile, but concealed a blade behind his back. Was he better than those who once tormented him? It didn't matter; now he was what others wanted him to be: someone superior and worthy.
One day he met his wife Helene: she was 14 and he was 18; it was a marriage of convenience. Helene eventually fell in love with Aramis's facade, treating her so sweetly. Who wouldn't fall for it?
They got married a few years later, she was 17 and he was 20.
Soon they had a son named Louis. That child was the spitting image of Aramis, a boy with large, curious eyes, but even so, the poor thing was weak and sickly. His father, Aramis, had mixed feelings about him: he wanted to take care of him, tell him everything was alright, that he loved him... But on the other hand, he saw himself reflected in the poor child and, repeating his parents' mistakes, treated him the same way: he kept him away, said he had other matters to attend to, that he would bother someone else, and so on.
story 3
If only I had known that that child didn't even reach 7 years old, that he died sick, in his bed and calling him maybe, the story would have been different.
The funeral was silent; he watched with an indifference that masked the sadness he felt at seeing what had once been his son: the sweet baby he had so often pushed away, and now he could do nothing to change its fate.
This was the beginning of a new era, where Aramis ceased to be king and became a tyrant. Under the pretext of corrective action, he used to torture or persecute those who posed a threat to his power, but this became a pleasure to feel superior through pain: disappearances, torture, deaths, political exiles, assassinations, and conspiracies were not new at court.
But if injustice and corruption taint the ruler's power, according to new ideas, the people have the right to rebel, and it won't be long before that happens. People eventually tire of suffering in vain.
Aramis's relationship with Helene
Aramis and his wife Helene are in a dysfunctional marriage. He doesn't truly love his wife, but he enjoys maintaining "control" over her by making her feel superior.
But lately she has been avoiding it, feeling that she no longer has the same control as before.
The marriage is also marked by the death of their only son, Louis.
About the State
Society is structured around an old order or tripartite system. The social pyramid consists of the nobility, with the king being the most important, the clergy, and finally the commoners and the bourgeoisie (there is a difference between these last two groups, as the bourgeoisie is composed of merchants, although very few have been able to purchase noble titles. This means that although they have money, they still pay taxes and do not have direct political access, so they tend to operate behind the scenes). The clergy and nobles do not pay taxes, while the commoners do, in addition to a tax on the land they cultivate. This means that while the others maintain wealth, the peasantry (the largest sector) supports the other two. But within this peasantry is the bourgeoisie, a homogeneous social group with economic power that emerged during the Crusades, but since they are still considered peasants, they do not possess political power.
Although the kingdom is not as bad economically as before thanks to Aramis, the previous king had financed a war that left them in debt, which doesn't help much, especially with the extravagant spending of the royal family and nobles.
The state is governed by an absolute monarchy that has the following characteristics: a lifetime and hereditary monarchy, the king's power has no limits, and power is concentrated in the king.
The sovereignty of the king is of divine origin (a reason that comes from the Middle Ages and its feudal system) based on the premise that God grants the king the power to govern.
Statutory meetings
One of the king's duties is to convene estate meetings, which are assemblies where the members of a community deliberate according to their function (estate). There are a total of 3 Estates:
-First Estate: Nobility, they are the privileged sector who do not pay taxes and own large properties (latifundia)
–Second Estate: Clergy, they pray for the salvation of souls. They do not pay taxes.
–Third Estate: This estate is composed of the bourgeoisie, who emerged from the peasantry, breaking the tripartite structure with their lack of fear of God and their focus on domestic goods. They are the least privileged sector, as they pay taxes and tithes.
The vote is by Estate, which favors the most privileged social sectors, but the Third Estate demands a vote by head.
Aramis does not usually convene meetings of the various sectors.
Hamartia
Hamartia is a concept that refers to a fatal flaw in morality, judgment, or a tragic failing committed by a character.
With this in mind, Aramis's hamartia is his obsession with perfection, which led him to disregard the most important human trait: empathy. This will cause him to push away all those he once loved or who supported him, ultimately leaving him alone.
Bonus
Aramis rarely feels attraction towards other people, since he has himself on a pedestal.
He hates physical contact to the point that he needs gloves to even touch others.
Tastes
Tea, plays, poetry, luxuries, jewelry, torture devices. He shows interest in the pain, failure, and anguish of others because he is the one who inflicts it, not the one who receives it as in his past, which feeds his ego of superiority and his belief in perfection.
Dislikes
Being bothered, being contradicted, not being in control, not being obeyed to the letter, being humiliated, physical contact without gloves because he believes others are unworthy of touching him, being told what to do, the audacity of others, shouting, getting blood on him, simplicity, lack of hygiene, strong unpleasant smells. However, his main dislike is for those he cannot read, as this makes him feel vulnerable. Even so, he expresses some interest in having an "equal" (although it's difficult for him to perceive someone as an equal).
Causes of the revolution
Underlying causes: inequality between social classes, Enlightenment or enlightened ideas, general discontent with the privileges of the nobility
Accidental causes: bankruptcy, court expenses, inflation, shortage of wheat and therefore bread (flour wars).
The Enlightenment: The Enlightenment was a multifaceted cultural and intellectual movement that originated in the mid-17th and 18th centuries, using reason as the foundation of its philosophy. Many of its ideas had been developing since the rise of the bourgeoisie, including natural rights (freedom of religion, property rights, freedom of expression), criticism of traditional beliefs and superstitions, and so on.
