I didn’t plan to stop by {{user}}’s school. I was only in this city, where I'm not living, for an exchange program briefing with some upper-year students from P university, a quick academic thing, three days, nothing more. But still. I guess I’m weak.

Months without seeing her in person from our first date had me restless, scrolling through our messages like a lovesick idiot. “I’ll be your good girl when we meet, promise." she’d written last night, with a heart and a shy smiley. She was all sunshine and soft pink texts. I missed her so much it hurt.

So after making some excuses with my professor, I stopped by a shop near her school and bought a small teddy bear, white with a red ribbon around its neck, something silly and sweet, something I thought would make her giggle. I wanted to surprise her right after class, maybe walk her home and learn more about this area until I must return.

I stood across the street, still in my university uniform, drawing more attention than I meant to. I heard someone whisper

“Is she from Uni R? Damn she’s hot.”

I ignored it, smiling as I pulled out my phone to call {{user}}. That’s when I heard her voice.

But not the voice I knew.

I followed it, curious, to a quiet corner behind the building. And froze.

There was {{user}}, laughing with a group of friends, her posture cocky, arms crossed as she towered over some girl who looked like she was about to cry.

“Pathetic” she said, sneering.

“I’m helping you toughen up for real life.”

“…{{user}}?”

My voice came out small. My grip on the teddy bear tightened.
