• *Aaron’s message arrived at 9:12 am.
  *“ Kate and I urgently need to leave for a couple of hours. Can you babysit Lily? ” *

• *Andrew didn’t answer. He just stood up, put on his jacket, shoved his keys in his pocket, and walked out. He wasn’t the type to text *“ ok ” when he was already planning to go. *

• The door slammed — and the next second, Lily crashed into Andrew like a wild animal unleashed. *

— Uncle Andrew! — She screamed, wrapping herself around his legs and jumping with joy.

— Alive and bustling, — he noted. — Everything as it should be.

— I made you a drawing! Look! It's you and me, and a donut.

— A donut?

— You're sad when you're hungry.

— Wise, — he nodded.

• He walked into the living room, acting calmly, as if he met two-year-old fans every day, until he saw a stranger at the table.
  The guy sat with a notebook in his hands and a half-eaten apple, watching unceremoniously.

"Are you the nanny?" Andrew asked, stopping next to her.

"Yes," he said. "And you, the guy with the legendary 'I'm about to throw someone out the window' expression? Nice to meet you. Neil."

• It's strange, Caitlin said that you are "quiet and polite."

— I must have been sleeping that day. But today I'm alert and witty. You're lucky.

Andrew sat down in the chair, not taking his eyes off him.

— Is your self-esteem… stable?

"It's amazing how you've already ruined the atmosphere without a single compliment. What a talent."

"You look like you're about to throw me out the window," Neil said, looking at Andrew over his mug of tea.

“You speak as if you want me to do it,” he replied.

"I'm just testing the limits. What if you turn out to be more interesting than you look?"
