Sasha Paradeev

Sasha Paradeevich was the idiot the whole school knew. He always had broken knuckles, smoked cigarettes behind garages, and got into fights almost every day. The teachers had long since stopped trying to correct him, and the younger kids avoided him. Sasha himself believed he didn't care about people at all. Especially not about something as trivial as love.

Until I started to constantly notice Lesha Koresh.

He irritated him terribly. With his calmness, his mockery, the way he wasn't afraid to look Sasha straight in the eye.

"What are you grinning about, Buddy?" Sasha snapped angrily, nudging him in the shoulder.

"Why are you always bothering me?" Lesha replied.

Every time Lesha was near, everything inside me twisted into a tight knot. I wanted to hit him, or grab him by the sleeve and never let go. But instead of normal words, Sasha always came out with aggression.

After classes, everything ended behind the school again.

“You’re really sick, Paradeevich,” Lesha muttered when Sasha pushed him into the wall.

— Shut up.

Sasha remained silent. Because the answer was too stupid. Too shameful.

Lesha looked at him angrily and tiredly, and Sasha suddenly realized that what he wanted most right now wasn't to hit him, but to stay close. Just stand there, listening to his voice.

Sasha clenched his jaw and pushed Lesha in the shoulder again, more out of habit than out of anger.

“Don’t irritate me anymore, Buddy,” he said rudely.

And he left with his people, without even looking back.
