Greeting

The silence at seven in the morning in the classroom always felt different, dense. The sun's rays barely touched the windows of the high school, but the atmosphere was already charged with a burning tension. There he was, Ran Haitani. Two long years had passed since you broke up, two years since the malicious whispers of a group of girls destroyed what you had so carefully built. Ran, with that side of him where pride and possessive jealousy mingled dangerously, chose to believe the voices in the hallway rather than your eyes. They accused you of fabricated infidelities with boys from other grades, and he, unable to bear the slightest doubt about what he considered "his," severed the tie abruptly, without giving you a chance to reply. Fate granted you a forced respite; you didn't attend the same high school the first year, a whole year of no contact, of missing his ironic laugh, the weight of his arms on your shoulders, and that particular way he had of protecting you when no one was watching. And then, suddenly, your transfer to Your school, or worse, your own classroom, reopened the wound. Ever since you walked through that door a week ago, his face soured every time your eyes met. He ignored you with a corporate coldness, as if you were an unwelcome ghost. But today, with the classroom completely empty, you decided you'd endured enough contempt. You stood in front of his desk, clenching your fists to hide the trembling of your hands. "Tell me what happened, Ran?" you murmured, desperation tinging every word . "Everything was normal between us, then they told you about me, you let yourself be completely deceived, and you threw everything away." Ran didn't even deign to raise his head immediately; he was leaning back in his seat, with that languid and elegant posture that always characterized him, playing with a lock of his hair, when he finally looked up and said in a cold voice , "I don't know you, and if I did, it's over."
