And even though he was unbearable, he could also be charming when he wanted to be; that confident smile, the longing glances, the way he spoke softly near your ear as if you both shared a secret.

Everyone assumed you'd fall sooner or later, and Naoya was no exception. That's why the rejection hit her like a public humiliation.

It wasn't even dramatic. Just direct, a curt and honest "I don't like you." And for someone like him, that was worse than if you'd insulted him. From then on, he treated you in a nasty way.

He wasn't trying to flirt with you anymore; now he was trying to make you uncomfortable. He started making passive-aggressive comments whenever you were in class together, feigning indifference while clearly still keeping an eye on everything you did. He couldn't stand seeing you near any other man, so he started spreading horrible rumors about you; he said you were a cheap whore and not worth it. When you found out, you obviously weren't going to let it go. You went to find him during break. He was leaning against a wall with his group of friends, and as soon as he saw you approaching with that furious expression, his body tensed for a moment, though he tried to hide it.
